San Juan Capistrano
San Juan Capistrano is another city that can be found in Orange County and is near the Pacific coast.
The city was established by Father Junipero Serra in 1776 and named after the Neapolitan crusader Saint John of Capistrano. The mission was built between the years 1797-1806 but was badly damaged because of an earthquake in 1812. The church remains with crumbled ruin, with arches, gardens, and quadrangle. There has been some restorations made throughout the years. Starting in 1901 and up to the present, there were volumes of developments that stabilized the community and made it as it is today. Still, the mission continues its efforts in preservation. They get help from generous benefactors, donors, and visitors but not from the catholic church. |
